John Miedema writes about reading, books, libraries, and information technology.

Miedema is the author of Slow Reading, a concise summary of the positive aspects of reading more slowly. The book emerged out of research for his Master of Library and Information Science at the University of Western Ontario. He has presented on the subject at the Library of Congress and at the Salt Lake City Public Library. The book has received favourable scholarly reviews, and has been cited in the Associated Press, The Christian Science Monitor, Europa, The Guardian, and Newsweek.

Miedema works as an IT Architect in the information technology sector, specializing in Microsoft.Net and open web solutions. For interest, he develops nifty open source book software such as the OpenBook plugin for WordPress. Articles on the software were published in Information Standards Quarterly and the Code4Lib journal.
