OpenBook 3 Video: Sneak Peek at the New Options
OpenBook 3 will be the final version of OpenBook. I have always planned to make a video about how to use OpenBook, so I will be making a good one after the release of version 3. As a trial run, I made a short video that provides a sneak peek at the new features I have been working on. I think you will be pleased. OpenBook 3 makes it very easy to insert instances of OpenBook using a new button and form on the Visual Editor. This version also speeds up load time using Open Library’s new Book API and by introducing an HTML alternative to shortcodes. How do you like it?.
I am using the free CamStudio to capture the screen events, plus the Windows Live Movie Maker that came with my Windows 7. Both tools are basic but get the job done. If you have other free tools to recommend, I’d be glad to hear about them.

Wow, John. This looks great. I particularly like that you can preview the item and decide which template works best. Previously template 2 was for widgets, and now I can “tweak” to have three styles.
Being able to use HTML and see how things look on the page will be incredibly valuable. Will there be a way to scale an image to a set size?
Thanks Terry. The templates will continue to work as you design them in the OpenBook Settings page. If you use the HTML option, you can tweak it anyway you like. I suppose you could scale the images using HTML height and width attributes. Thanks for the idea.
Nice video! Can’t wait for OpenBook 3.0 – it will make my life so much easier. Please forgive my newbie ignorance, but will it work with WordPress 3?
Re your screen capture software:
“If you have other free tools to recommend, I’d be glad to hear about them.”
I use free software called “Jing” to capture screen events. I’ve used the free basic version and it is great, really easy to use and simple to share your video with others. I think the Pro version (which costs money but not very much) allows you to flick between capturing what’s on your screen and recording from your webcam while you are recording. I haven’t tried that yet but if it works well you shouldn’t need any other video editing software at all.

Looks great. The html display is what I was waiting.
Other feature that I was hoping is to change the links for “author” to be able to display in my own website a list of books of the same author with my reviews.
Thanks for the great plugin.
