WordPress Tag Feeds – A Most Useful Tip

31 May 2009 2 Comments

Readers of my blog may note that I cover a fairly broad range of topics — book reviews, reading research, book widgets, library technology, library school, open source. Sometimes, when I can’t restrain myself, I get political. (Just now, for example, I felt like chanting hurrays about the momentum of our new post-conservative era, but did not. Er, I guess I just did).

Not everyone is interested in all of these topics. Today, I wanted to create a feed just for posts that would of interest to the Planet Code4Lib aggregator. I found this useful tip at thedeadone.net on how to do this. I simply tag posts with “planetcode4lib” and then add the word “feed” to the display of that tag, like so:

Tested in Google Reader; works fine. You can do this for any tag. Any reader can do this for any of my tags. It also seems to work for categories. New to me!

Yes, that’s one of the main reasons for using WordPress, in my opinion. So, for example, if you wanted to do some podcasting, you could tag or categorize audio posts “podcast” (or whatever) and submit just that feed to iTunes.

Thanks Dave. Now that I’m on to it, I’m beginning to think about additional applications like that.
