Not in WorldCat. Where is My Public Library? In AMICUS.

WorldCat seems like a wonderful catalogue of library holdings. When I started the OpenBook plugin, I seriously considered WorldCat as my source of book data. It ranked the highest on my list of criteria from a straight count perspective. But I favoured OpenLibrary because it was open source and I could add titles. The fact that I could add titles was very important to me. For one reason, my public library is not in WorldCat. But I see today that the issue is bigger than that. I’m doing a collection development assignment involving an evaluation of library catalogues. I had heard of AMICUS before but didn’t really understand it. Today I do. AMICUS is like the WorldCat of Canadian libraries. The bigger issue I’m pointing at is that WorldCat might be great for US libraries, it is nowhere near ready for Canadian libraries. It has a few Canadian libraries, but I’ll stick with AMICUS and Open Library when looking for a centralized source. In AMICUS I can find my library, and in Open Library I can add titles.
