I’m not usually a hockey fan but my wife is. I’m a fan during the Stanley Cup if there’s a Canadian team left playing. There wasn’t this year, but there were plenty of Canadian players. Oh that Sydney Crosby. And Cleary is the first Newfoundlander to win the Stanley Cup. I coded up the plugin during the Stanley Cup final last night. It is in good shape. A few more tweaks, some robust testing on my end, and I will release it for beta testing.
Note: the design has changed. The plugin now accepts the following arguments:
- ISBN. As before. Required.
- Book Version. There can be multiple OL versions of an ISBN. By default, OpenBook takes the latest version. You can specify an earlier version if you like.
- Display Options. By default, OpenBook displays the image and text. The following options are also available: 1=cover only. 2=Text only.
- Full Cover. Shows “thumbnail” by default, but you can set the argument to true here for the cover in its original size.
- Publisher Link. Instead of using a custom category, the user can pass a publisher link if desired.
If you are okay with the defaults, all you need to enter in the post is the tags and ISBN:
If you want to, you can specify options, like in this sample:
There has been some interest already by beta testers. If you are interested, let me know by comment or email. As soon as I’m happy with it, I will release it for beta testing, likely mid-next-week. Thanks!
I have recently been tuning into the fact that librarians use WordPress for their library website. This plugin is an ideal fit for displaying book covers, a service that librarians often pay for. There’s no cost in using the plugin, and to my knowledge the copyright is clear.
P.S. I am going to stop putting an “Index” link at the end of each OpenBook post. Just click the OpenBook logo to see the index.
